About Sujatha

Born in Bangalore and raised in Kollegal, Karnataka — well known for its silk industry, daughter to A.V. Annadana Subba Setty and Vasuvaambal, Sujatha was destined to weave the threads of floral artistry and family love into the tapestry of her life.

As a child Sujatha's nimble fingers crafted wonders with wool and beads, fashioning intricate dolls that danced to her imaginative tunes. Her formative years were an ode to her mother's culinary magic, where delectable dishes were served with love, leaving indelible memories etched in her heart. Her youthful vigor led her to the field and court, where she excelled in the game of throwball, and little did she know that her adolescent melodic strains of the violin and veena, along with her voice were just the beginnings of painting a vibrant canvas of her artistic soul.

Marriage opened new doors, and Sujatha’s relocation brought her to the bustling streets of Bangalore. Here she embraced the enchantment of languages, learning the timeless allure of Sanskrit, tanjore painting and veda chanting. Alongside, she honed the art of designing and sewing clothes for her 3 daughters, a testament to her creative versatility.

Yet, it was the delicate art of Ikebana that truly captivated her spirit. Under the guidance of revered teachers Preya Ranganathan, and Leela Rajkumar, she embarked on a transformative journey of artistic discovery over 35+ years. Ikebana became her muse, her soul's language, a melody of petals and stems, of balance and harmony. Today in 2024, Sujatha stands as the illustrious former Director of the Bangalore Chapter of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. Her influence and artistry have touched the lives of over 70 fellow artists, as she helped weave the essence and beauty of Ikebana into Bangalore's vibrant cultural landscape.

Sujatha's family life mirrors the diversity of her heart's garden. She is the adoring wife of Sharath Kumar (Partner at Prathibha Jewellery House), who is a beacon of support and love in her life. They both care for their three daughters’ families, each living in a different corner of the world. Their affection extends across the globe, embracing her eldest in Boston, her middle daughter who's an Ikebana artist like her, in Bangalore, and her youngest in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has 4 loving grandchildren who are the apples of her eye.

Her personal life exudes care through thoughtful, wholesome dishes for her near and dear family members, and she cultivates inner peace through bhajan classes, yoga, and contemplative walks with her husband. Her travels are soulful and curious expeditions seeking the principles of ikebana (a fresh approach, movement, balance and harmony) everywhere, while collecting interesting treasures for future arrangements along the way.

Beyond her family, Sujatha actively participates in the Lions Club, blending her creative flair with community service.

Sujatha Sharath Kumar, a symphony of Ikebana and family love, continues to inspire and nurture, her life a delicate arrangement of beauty, love, and artistry that resonates with the world around her.
