About Sujatha

Sujatha, daughter to A.V. Annadana Subba Setty and Vasuvaambal was born in Bangalore and raised in Kollegal, Karnataka — a town well known for its silk industry. As a child, she crafted intricate dolls and cherished the culinary magic of her mother’s kitchen. Her talents extended to throwball, music, and the violin and veena, foreshadowing a lifelong journey of creativity.

Marriage brought her to Bangalore, where she embraced new passions—Sanskrit, Tanjore painting, and Vedic chanting—while designing and sewing for her three daughters. But it was Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement, that became her true muse. Under the guidance of Preya Ranganathan and Leela Rajkumar, she honed her craft for over 35 years, serving as Director of the Bangalore Chapter of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana (2022–2024) and President of Ikebana International (2001–2003). She has mentored over 70 artists, shaping Bangalore’s vibrant Ikebana community.

Sujatha and her husband Sharath Kumar (Partner at Prathibha Jewellery House), share a life rich in love and family, caring for their daughters across Boston, Bangalore, and Johannesburg, and doting on their four grandchildren. She finds joy in preparing wholesome meals, practicing bhajans and yoga, and taking contemplative walks with her husband. A passionate traveler, she draws inspiration from nature, collecting interesting elements for future floral arrangements.

Outside her family and artistic pursuits, Sujatha finds time to contribute towards community service activities as part of the Lions Club. With each Ikebana arrangement, she expresses a deep connection to nature, art, and the rhythm of life.
